Therapy modalities

I offer an integrated approach to therapy across myriad theories and modalities, including but not limited to…

Schema Therapy

Schemas are enduring patterns of beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. They are often formed in childhood, and present themselves in unconscious ways as adults. We don’t choose our schemas, but we do live in a way that can perpetuate our schemas (beliefs about ourselves/the world around us), and in this way, we can perpetuate challenges in our lives without realising it.

Schema Therapy is designed to first understand our schemas, where they come from, and to start the healing process from these schemas. We learn new ways to cope with our difficult thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and learn new ways to live in the world.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Don’t let the “commitment” part scare you off - ACT is about acting on your values (the things that are important to you), and understanding what is holding you back from living a life consistent with your values - that is, what is holding you back from a life that is rich, full, meaningful, and important to you

ACT is about moving you towards an important life - a life that is dictated by you and your values - not your partner/parents/friends/work/pets - you get to choose what’s important to you.

Compassion-focussed Therapy

Most people who have experienced trauma are exceptional are being compassionate towards others, and rarely are as kind to themselves as they are to others.

Compassion-focussed therapy is about building this part of ourselves, so we can learn to be compassionate to others, to receive compassion from others, and to be compassionate towards ourselves.
